When it comes to weight loss diets, we certainly are not limited as to options. Some of them may go to extremes, including various types of fasting or dropping one particular type of nutrient altogether. There are other diets, however, that seem to follow almost a scientific approach and these tend to grab the attention of those who are interested in losing weight. One of those weight loss methods is the Zone Diet, and you may just find that it is the right diet for you.
One of the problems that we face when we go on any type of a diet is that the initial weight loss is going to be a lot of water weight. This can be motivating for some people but for others, it can be discouraging. After all, if we were to go back to our normal way of eating, the weight loss would quickly come back on and all of our efforts would be for nothing.
That isn’t the promise of the Zone Diet. This particular diet does not promise any type of quick weight loss, as you may only lose a pound and a half the first week that you are on it. One of the benefits of the zone diet is the ability to eat 5 times throughout the day. The type of eating that you do is fairly balanced and includes a protein, such as turkey or chicken, some fruits and vegetables and even some healthy fat. Of course, the types of foods that you eat are going to be restricted but you will be happy to know that you can eat any type of food, provided you stay within “the zone.”
The scientific approach to this particular diet comes in the form of proportions. It doesn’t matter what meal you eat, you need to ensure that it has the same proportions of nutrients. 30% of the meal will come from protein, 30% from fat and 40% of the meal is from carbohydrates. It takes a little while before you learn how to determine the amount of protein, fats, and carbohydrates you are eating but once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature.
Another thing you will recognize about the Zone Diet is the fact that it is calorie based. Men will eat about 1,500 calories per day and women will eat about 1,200 calories daily. This will put you in a calorie deficit so if you do some exercise, you may even find that you are losing weight a little more quickly.
As is the case with any type of diet, the Zone Diet requires that you follow it strictly in order to see your weight loss efforts pay off. If this particular diet seems like one that would work for you, however, it certainly can help you to lose weight.
